If only a Brazilian wax came to be painless I’m pretty sure there’d be more ladies waiting in line to get one.
Unfortunately, pain is a major factor which pushes many to opt out of it instead. But if you want to try it out or maintain your hairless beauty down there, here are some tips to make it less painful
Wax
after your period.
It
is best to get waxed after your period because your pain threshold is better
than if you have it done beforehand. Your pubic region can become extra
sensitive when your period is about to start which is why you need to take few
days off to let the pain become bearable.
Steer
clear from caffeine and alcohol.
If
you know that you have a treatment scheduled, it would be wise to avoid
caffeinated and alcoholic drinks before. They can make the skin more sensitive
to waxing. So if you really need to have that piping cup of coffee or maybe have a glass of wine with your meal,
take a couple hours off before getting waxed. Since these drinks tend to sap
out the skin’s moisture and also makes the body more acidic (hence more
sensitive), it would also be good to rehydrate adequately by drinking water.
Trim
The
hair removal process can be made less painful if you trim your hair up to
quarter of an inch. Hairs that are longer can result in excessive pulling which
could probably lead you cursing once the first patch is removed. So trim before
you go to the salon.
Regular
exfoliation
Exfoliation
should not only be limited to those areas that can be seen. For waxing that can
be less painful you can definitely benefit from a scrub. Regular exfoliation
removes dead skin cells on the surface area which makes hair removal easier.
Don’t
ice it!
If
you think that the numbing action of ice can do the trick, you’re bound to get
a very painful surprise. Applying ice over the area may numb the skin but it
will also cause the follicles to constrict. This makes it difficult for the
hair to hold on more tightly. Take a warm washcloth instead and put it over the
area or go for a warm bath for a less painful hair removal.
Anesthetize
This
may not be any type of operation but you can really swear on a topical
anesthesia to take the edge off. You can
ask your doctor for a 4/5 lidocaine cream which you can apply at least 45
minutes before your Brazilian wax treatment.
Take
pain relievers
To
blunt the pain during your Brazilian wax treatment you can take an analgesic
beforehand. It is often suggested that acetaminophen or Tylenol is better
compared to ibuprofen (Advil) because the latter can prolong bleeding. Although
waxing wouldn't really be that bloody, but it would be better to be on the safe
side and steer clear from anything that could lead to complications.
Get
professional treatment.
It
pays to have your Brazilian wax done by a professional, especially if this is
your first time. Remember, these are sensitive areas you will be dealing with,
and any wrong move could send you writhing in pain to the ER. So, be sure you
go to a good salon with a well-trained and experienced aesthetician.
