Is There a Specific Age to Have a Brazilian Wax?

When you turn on the television today, you can see these small kids parading like adults in beauty contests. It may be entertaining to see these adorable young children strutting their stuff, but what goes behind the curtains can be quite shocking.

Kids as young as 4 years old are not only getting loads of makeup on, or being asked to wear skimpy suites, but they also get regular salon services. To look every bit of perfection to be the dolls that they are, these toddlers also get manicures, pedicures, eyebrow trimming and spray tans. That is why some are beginning to ask if these young children were able to go further with waxing?

How young is too young then for a Brazilian wax?

Although young toddlers still don’t have the problem of unruly pubertal hairs, there are older children who tend to be very particular with their skin. And salons even admit that there are young girls who come to them for waxing. These are either leg waxing or a bikini wax, in preparation for summer camp or school dances.  They say that they have not gone to extremes such as a Brazilian wax, but just minor hair removal to make sure that no hairs are poking out.

However, most salons today have their age policies when it comes to rather painful and delicate services, such as waxing. They require these young ladies to be at least 18 years old or have a parental approval al/signature to be a client.

There are also some salons who would do a Brazilian wax on someone as young as 11. Other areas that are often requested by these young girls include the underarm, brow, and the lip.

Salon directors also say that they are extremely careful when it comes to these younger clientele. It is important that they talk this out thoroughly with the parent. They either communicate over the phone or via email to know exactly what they want done.

It’s good if these kids have parental supervision. Salons, also have to deal with those who lie about their age, or use an older siblings name to get a Brazilian wax. That is why they see to it that they thoroughly orient these kids on the pain that they are to encounter.

There are no official state or city regulations on waxing or any salon treatment for minors. But every salon have their own standards. Some are not so lenient that they never perform a Bikini wax on anyone under the age of 18 even if there is parental consent. But it is also true that anything can be possible if an establishment honors parental consent.

This now leads to one question, does Brazilian waxing or any of these procedures really what these young children want or is it their parent’s choice? According to a mother who was interviewed by Good Morning America once, she thinks that it is part of hygiene and it is good to start young.

But I say, it is largely more important that you go to a good aesthetician who is well trained to ensure the safety of the results these young children will have.
